Recycling An Old Holiday Wreath.

Have an old Christmas wreath that you don't quite find "cute" anymore?  Have a hand-me down?  Recycle it!  With so many craft projects out there, you can easily remake your old wreath into something new.  I went out and bought tinsel blend glitter and gold/metallic paint because I was going to paint the apples on our hand-me down wreath to make them look like ornaments.  Since they were wax, the acrylic paint did not work well (I'm not sure why).  Instead I did minor changes, and the wreath ended up looking better even with such small changes!

I outlined the problem areas.  The stems were removed from the apples so that from far away they wouldn't read as apples right away.  I actually removed some of the apples as well so there weren't so many.  I removed the bell from the wreath because I did not want it to make sound.  The bows were not attached to each other and there was a middle piece missing from the top bow (hence the dried hot glue).  I hot glued the bows together and placed a small bead in the middle of the bow.  I cut some cute little gold glitter leaves from some ribbon and hot glued them to the other bunches of leaves on the wreath and in the groove of one of the apples because you could see the hole from where the stem was.

Other ways to dress up a wreath?

  • Make some handmade bows out of burlap, lace, Christmas fabric, whatever and glue them to the wreath.
  • Take some "snow" spray and spray your wreath.
  • Cut out a cardboard phrase, last name initial etc. Craft it (with glitter or paint), and insert it in the middle.

Have fun crafting! :)
