(So Late) New Years & a Quick Cookie Recipe

We had our first holiday celebration in our home!  Unfortunately, we were alone since family had their own stuff going on.  It was a simple yet comforting way to ring in the new year.  Earlier in the day, I was rushing to clean the place up because it's bad luck to bring in the new year with a dirty home.  Truth.  I packed all of our Christmas things in a box and strangely I was excited to be doing so.  We now have our official first Christmas box!  Small first home accomplishments, aha!  I made some burgers for dinner and even enjoyed myself a turkey burger with the tiny human (sooo good!).  I even made some confetti french vanilla cookies for dessert (recipe will be in the next post).  I hope you all enjoyed celebrating with family and friends.

Thankful Tuesday #2

I will always be eternally grateful for my heritage and home-cooked food.  There is just something amazing about walking into my parents' house and realizing it smells like home.  My husband said one day back when we first started dating that I smelled like my house...aka Asian food.  At first I was floored, "I smell like lumpia?!"  but then it grew on me.  There's just something about home that will always be my safe haven and enjoying my mother's home meals is part of that.  Every time one of my brothers or sisters come to visit, they always put in meal requests and my mom happily cooks for them. She enjoys cooking Vietnamese food, it helps her feel close to home and stay connected with her heritage too.  Last time we visited, she packed me some pre-marinated meat and some home-made fish sauce.  The taste of home will never get old.

Target Holiday Wishlist

The holidays are upon us!  A sugar cookie latte from Dunkin Donuts the other day has sealed this fact for me.  I am SO excited to go shopping for holiday decor for our place.  This will be our first Christmas as a little family in our little home.  Here are a few holiday things I plan on getting from target!

Thankful Tuesday

Thanksgiving is right around the corner!  I know, I know.  I'm so early on this and we still have a whole month left but I just can't wait.  (I told you...I am a holiday queen!)  Every Tuesday for this month is going to be a thankful post where I write about anyone or anything that I am thankful for.

Happy Halloween!

I hope everyone had a safe and awesome Halloween night.  My little family and I went as Marvel characters since last year we were DC characters.  I went as hipster Captain America since I did not feel like dressing up too much this year.  As a prop, and because I knew it was going to be delicious, I tried Starbuck's new Franken Frap and it was amazing.  Seiously.  Amazing.  I would drink it every day if I could.  We're already planning our next year's costumes, what about ya'll?

Halloween Countdown: 5 Days of Spooks!

The questionnaire that I did yesterday had a section for scariest dream and honestly I have 3 that stand out.

3 OF THE SCARIEST DREAMS I'VE EVER HAD

1.  The night we saw "Insidious" I fell asleep on the couch while my husband was playing games. I had a realistic dream where I was laying on my couch and the red-faced demon came running through the door, picked me up, threw me over his shoulder, and starting spinning me around.  I woke up on my couch, the light from the tv was the only light on, and I literally started to cry.  Realistic dreams suck.

2.  When I was younger, I had a dream where I was trapped in my room.  Toys and furniture were spinning around me (Poltergeist style) and I looked out into the hallway where I saw my dad, he had come home from work.  He tried to get to me but he couldn't because the toys spun faster around me.  Eeekkk.

3.  When I was younger, I had a realistic dream where I was laying in my bed with no light but the outside light post.  It suddenly got quiet and the clock in my room stopped.  Time felt like it had stopped.  So simple but it was terrifying.

What was your scariest dream?  Comment below! :)

Halloween Countdown: 6 Days of Spooks!

Inspired by an interview of Steven Yeun here "What Scares Steven Yeun Stiff", I decided to my own
spooky questionnaire!

Spook Questionnaire

Movie:  Stephen King's IT, I think it's a pretty common answer.  I watched the movie at a pretty young age and that night my brother's friend brought over a small clown statue they bought for my birthday (because I was into cute circus things).  Scary. I honestly have too many movies that have truly scared me but this one, I can not watch.

Book:  Definitely the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.  It was a love-hate relationship because I loved reading books as a kid and since it was a series, I had to read all of them.  The illustrations were horrifying.  I remember one story, the character was at home alone and they heard footsteps from upstairs.  The picture was of the "intruder's" feet sinking into the floor/ ceiling (for the character downstairs).

TV Show:  Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark and MTV's Fear.  Both are older shows that are no longer running but to this day, I can remember how scary they were.

Dream:  (This will be a post on it's own!)

Object:  I was cooking Italian sausage one night for dinner and I didn't have enough water in the pot to simmer so it made the sausage packaging rip open and it looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.  The packaging split in the middle and folded over the sides and the insides bubbled up. Utterly disgusting and horrifying to watch happen.

Character from a movie/ tv show:  Victorian women, or women in old time clothing like it Dead Silence, The Woman in Black, and the Conjuring.  There is something just tragic about them and the high collars on their dresses...spooky.

Hope you enjoyed reading some of my answers. :)
What are some of yours?

Halloween Countdown: 7 Days of Spooks!

I love this time of year, you wanna know why?  I love celebrating the holiday season, starting with Halloween!  Since Halloween is 7 days from today, I decided to start a countdown of posts, each day something being related to Halloween and the spooks.  How fun, right?!

Today's post will be all about some fun facts about Halloween that I found interesting (I found these on the interwebs so they could be true or false or rather...trick or treat!  *Corny applause*)

TOP TEN FACTS ABOUT HALLOWEEN

1.  Halloween is the second highest grossing commercial holiday after Christmas.
2.  Ireland is typically believed to be the birthplace of Halloween.
3.  Halloween colors:  The color orange symbolizes endurance, strength, and (similar to gold and brown) symbolizes the harvest and autumn.  Black symbolizes death and darkness and reminds us that Halloween was once a festival that marked the boundaries between life and death.
4.  Boston, MA holds the record for the most Jack O Lanterns lit at once.  (Could have changed)
5.  Halloween has various names including All Hallows' Eve, Witches Night, Snap-apple Night, and Summer's End.
6.  Harry Houdini, one of history's mysterious men, died on Halloween night in 1926.
7. Scarecrows, one of Halloween's most popular figures, symbolize the agricultural foundation of the holiday.
8.  The first record of trick-or-treating in print was 1927 in Canada.
9. Samhainophobia is the fear of Halloween.
10.  The word "witch" came from an Old English word wicce, meaning "wise woman".  Wiccan were respected women at one point, with sabbats or meetings that were known to take place on October 31st.

11.  Children are twice as likely to be killed in car/pedestrian accidents on Halloween than any other night.

^  If you are going out, please be aware for your child or family members and please, if you are driving, be patient of the people trick-or-treating and don't be that speeding asshole. :)
